Intl. Quran Competition announces winners in Tehran

TEHRAN, July 16 (MNA) -- Winners of the 27th International Quran Competition were announced in a ceremony held on Wednesday at Tehran’s Summit Conference Hall.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Minster of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mohammad Hosseini, as well as several literary and cultural figures attended the award presentation ceremony.

A total of 95 participants from 60 countries attended the competition which began on July 4. The contest was held in the three sections of recitation of the Quran, memorization of the Quran and articles on Quranic issues.

In the recitation of the Quran section, Iranian Masud Nikdasti won the first award. Abdullah Daud Muhammad from Tanzania and Fat’hollah Vahyeddin from Indonesia were winners of the second and third titles respectively.

In the memorization of the Quran section, Ali Rajabi from Iran took the first place award. Mohammed Khalil from Iraq and Badr Abdul Hafeez from Libya took second and third places respectively.

Five articles were selected out of the 61 submitted to the secretariat of the event and the authors were also awarded at the closing ceremony.
